KARATE IS A METHOD OF EDUCATION
Garner Karate-Do teaches Shotokan-style karate. Shotokan karate is physically distinguished from other karate systems in adapting nearly every one of its techniques to a linear fighting style, its philosophy being that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Shotokan emphasizes two ideas in its training: balance and muscle control, and a belief that proper study eliminates ego and promotes hard, honest work, humility, and excellence.
The classes are structured and designed after a traditional Japanese-style class. Commands and instructions are given in both Japanese and English. Discipline, perfection of character, and self improvement are the main goals for the school.
It’s important to note that not all martial arts are the same; neither are the instructors. To make an intelligent decision, a parent (or caregiver) must research what is available and what is best for the situation.
It is a serious mistake for a caregiver to allow a child to take karate without understanding that it is a method of education. The class is a forum wherein children can develop their individuality without parental pressure and in the context of martial arts training.
